Looking Back – Looking Forward to 2017
(Prayer as prose)
  
 Oh Lord, My God,
                It has been a golden year,
                Full of triumph and celebration
                Laced with trials and tribulations,
                With the fullness of your grace.
 
You have stretched us toward your mark;
You have challenged us to stand strong.
We’ve won some; We’ve lost some;
And, Some were a draw.
                But there has always been victory in you. 
 
You’ve shone us glimpses of a future,
                Emboldened us to chase our dreams,
And chastened us to no longer live in fear -
For you are always with us.
 
As we embark on the New Year,
                Daunting as it may seem – from far off places,
                We are reminded that -
 
                Just as you have been here every other year,
                You will be here this New Year, too.
 
We lift our hands in praise for 2016-
                A year of glorious revelations and wondrous blessings.
                A year of learning who you want us to be.
 
We march forward and shout Hallelujah for 2017 –
                The year of more accepted challenges,
                                More fervent prayer,
                                                More of You;
 
In Jesus’ name we pray and praise;
                Happy New Year,
                                                Amen.
